2012 was a good year for the maiden edition of Fault Lines. Hundred of poems were submitted by hundred of poets residing along the Cascadia earthquake zone on the West coast, from the San Francisco Bay area north to Eugene, Portland, Seattle and beyond to Vancouver, BC.
The selected poems said something to Fault Line readers. Poems for People are exactly that: poems people can understand, that speak to them about something meaningful, and can inspire them to continue reading poetry.
Many spontaneous launching events took place up and down the coast. Portland held an inaugural launching in early June of 2012 for over eighty people. The Tsunami bookstore in Eugene, Or. hosted a Fault Lines reading for sixty-five people. Gig Harbor, Wa. held a two day celebration on the editor’s birthday. Sixty five people attended the reading at the Gig Harbor Public Library. Seattle held a memorable launching at the famed Hugo House. And San Francisco participated in a reading at Passage Books.
All of this was beyond the editor/publisher’s wildest expectations. It goes to show that poets want to share their poetry with the public and that the public wants to hear good poetry read live.
It is time to rest for awhile. Just as fields must lay fallow, so do successful publications. It’s time to let the creative flow rejuvenate. Time will tell what the next harvest will bring.
